CYBERIA | TerrorNet is proud to announce it's latest hacking product, - the "KOL-1" is the first in the series of KOL viruses which has a set aim of destroying a system and spreading itself through e-mail. Террористический клан CYBERIA | Terror Net представляет последний продукт для хаккеров, - КОЛ-1   (Эль Койот),  это первый из серии вирусов новего поколения "КОЛ".
The virus first attacks the victim's computer through e-mail.  Once the virus is executed it:
  • Wipes out the system registry and its backups, making Windows and most of its applications useless
  • It then reproduces by sending a copy of itself to all addresses found in the MS Outlook Address Book 
  • When the above producedures are finished it self-destructs by deleting a temp copy of itself
The virus, however, has a few disadvantages:
  • Although it wipes out the registry lightning fast, it does take a long time to reproduce
  • The virus does not work on slow systems, although it has been tested positive on a P-100 with 24 Mb RAM, running on a Windows 95 B  platform
  • The virus may not work on a 16bit platform
  • The virus will not work if the victim does not have MS Outlook  (or Express version) versions 4.0 and above.  It has been positively tested on MS Outlook Express v 4.71  (Supplied with MS IE 4)
Regardless of its numerous disadvantages KOL-1 is expected to spread quickly after we send it to popular office computers world wide. 
The next in the deadly serries of "KOL" viruses, entitled "KOL-2" is due to be released next year.  Unlike its predecessor, which was written in Visual BASIC, KOL-2 will be written in Visual C++, or JAVA,  which will result in a performance gain, and the absence of most of the above disadvantages.
